Sugababes in Brighton ~ BBC & Universal Deal

BBC Worldwide signs deal for Universal Music television contentBBC Worldwide's push into music programming given boost by deal, which includes Rolling Stones documentary
(1)Tweet this (23)Comments (0) Tara Conlan guardian.co.uk, Wednesday 24 February 2010 08.08 GMT Article historyBBC Worldwide's push into selling more music programming has been given another boost with the signing of a new long-term deal to distribute all Universal Music's television content.

The BBC's commercial arm has also secured the international distribution to a new documentary about the making of the Rolling Stones' 1972 album Exile on Main St, which features new interviews with Mick Jagger and Keith Richards.

Under the terms of the Universal contract, BBC Worldwide will sell new television shows from Universal Music along with content from a "selection of international artists signed through Universal Music Group International".

The deal was announced yesterday at international sales market BBC Showcase in Brighton, which featured a performance by Universal artists the Sugababes.

Stephen Davies, the director of BBC Worldwide Audio & Music, said: "We are proud to become distribution partner with the world's biggest record label and are delighted to be representing such a great roster of artists.

"This deal further strengthens our relationship with Universal and, with its promise of more great programming, will take BBC Worldwide Music to a new level as a major music distributor."

Exile on Main St is directed by Stephen Kijak and features the story behind the making of the sprawling double album, which was recorded over several years, including a period in mid 1971 when the Stones decamped to a chateau near Nice in southern France for tax reasons.

The deals follow the news earlier this week that BBCW has signed a contract to sell the Glastonbury Festival globally.

Amelle Blog
So, I’m doing a parachute jump on 5th March to raise money for Cancer Research! I’ve been wanting to do something for the last few months, because I was supposed to do a 10k run for the charity but I ended up missing it because I was in LA and I’ve felt really guilty about it ever since. It’s a charity that’s really close to my heart ever since my dad passed away, so I really want to earn as much money as possible.

I’m really looking forward to it, but at the same time I’m a bit nervous and my stomach keeps going! I’ve never done anything like that before. Basically I’ve got no choice now, I have to jump out of that plane whether I like it or not, screaming, crying or laughing! It’s going to be amazing, and I’ll be so proud of myself afterwards.

You can sponsor me at www.justgiving.com/Amelle-Berrabah – thanks so much in advance to anyone who donates money, it’s for a really important cause and literally every single penny counts. I really appreciate any support that you give me and Cancer Research.

Thanks – wish me luck! Amelle xx

Sugababes So Sweet and Sexy

THE SUGABABES lit up The Sun Studios this week when they swung by for a Biz Session.
I've witnessed the all of the line-up changes over the years.

But this outfit - HEIDI RANGE, AMELLE BERRABAH and JADE EWEN - looks the happiest and sexiest yet one yet as they giggled their way through a brilliant acoustic set.

After wowing with a stripped down version of new track Crash and Burn and a cover of FLORENCE AND THE MACHINE'S Rabbit Heart, the girls agreed Jade's arrival had been a breath of fresh air.

Heidi said: "It's a nice atmosphere. I'm very nervous about the new album but it's fun.

"We're on the same page, there's a fresh energy which is good, positive and very exciting. There are lots of things we want to achieve together as a group."

Amelle added: "It's been fun and exciting."

New girl Jade - who replaced KEISHA BUCHANAN in September - says the new album Sweet 7 - out on March 15 - will gauge whether people have finally accepted her as a Sugababe.

Strong voice ... newcomer Jade
DAVE HOGANShe said: "I'm slightly nervous about what the public think after so many negative comments at the beginnning.

"Sometimes you think: 'I'm sh*t' after getting one bad comment but I make jokes about it now."

Jade added: "The new album will really show whether people have accepted the new Sugababes line up.

"But I feel very welcome and like I've been here forever.

"It's been overwhelming having to learn all the words as there are so many songs. But I'm dealing with one at a time."

Despite the rejuvenated camaraderie, Heidi says the girls won't be bridesmaids at her wedding to TV presenter DAVE BERRY next Easter.

She says: "It's sounds evil but I've always said it will be my sister and my best friend.

"It will be a small, private do but of course the girls will come.

"I better get looking at venues as it will quickly creep up."
