Sugababes: [L-R] Heidi Range, Jade Ewen and Amelle Berrabah Sugababes say that getting signed by Jay-Z's record label was a "compliment" but admit they're still waiting to meet the rap star.

The group recently penned a contract with Roc Nation with the intention of breaking the US market.

Singer Amelle Berrabah thinks achieving success Stateside would be great but isn't too important.

"We're very happy," she admitted. "But you should always aspire to do more if you can.

"If it doesn't work out then it doesn't work out, it's just one of those things."

Things have always been cool with us, but it was a lot of pressure, a lot of tension. It's hard going out to gigs and feeling like people hate you

The group's planning to tour America towards the end of the year.

In the meantime, the girls have been working with well-known hip hop names like Ne-Yo and RedOne on their upcoming album (due in March) and say it's been a great experience.

"We've got a collaboration with Sean Kingston too," reveals Sugababes' newest member Jade Ewen. "We're really excited about it. We really love that tune."

The group has also released a new single from the record, Wear My Kiss, which they describe as "cheeky, fun and flirty".

The girls say it reflects the up-tempo nature of their seventh album.

Missed connections

However, hooking up with the man behind their new project has been a problem so far.

The girls missed Roc Nation boss Jay-Z on a recent trip to the US and also left without an introduction at last week's Brits.

Sugababes are signed to Jay-Z's Roc Nation label in the US Jade explained: "We were supposed to meet him and then he won an award. We went to his table but he was still at the press round."

The girls say they're hoping to finally catch up with him at one of his summer shows.

The rapper is lined up to play at the Isle of Wight, Wireless and T in the Park festivals.

Jade Ewen also spoke about her controversial introduction to Sugababes.

The 22-year-old, who represented the UK in last year's Eurovision song contest, replaced founding member Keisha Buchanan in September amid rumours of a rift in the band.

"Things have always been cool with us, but it was a lot of pressure, a lot of tension," Jade said.

"It's hard going out to gigs and feeling like people hate you."

The singer says she's thankful things have now settled down.

"People are supportive," she said. "We seem to be winning them around. The music hopefully will speak for itself."

Sugababes have admitted that they are yet to meet their Roc Nation label boss Jay-Z.

The 'Wear My Kiss' trio, who signed to Roc Nation last year, revealed that they were meant to be introduced to the rapper at the Brit Awards last week.

"We were supposed to meet him and then he won an award. We went to his table but he was still at the press round," Jade Ewen told BBC Newsbeat.

The group said that they hope to meet Jay-Z when he performs at a string of UK festivals this summer, including the Isle of Wight, Wireless and T in the Park festivals.

Bandmate Amelle Berrabah revealed that the group hope to tour the US later this year.

"If it doesn't work out then it doesn't work out, it's just one of those things," she said.

Sugababes release new album Sweet 7 on March 15.

Sugababes reveal all about their new fashion line By Jody Thompson, Mirror.co.uk 23/02/2010

The Sugababes revealed on GMTV this morning they would like to launch their own clothing range.

Jade Ewen, Heidi Range, and Amelle Berrabah - who went along to Jasper Conran’s show this week - admitted they are in the early stages of starting a fashion line.

Jade Ewen explained: "Well we’re in talks at the moment, it’s really early. We’ve had a few offers, but we’re really excited because we love clothes. And you know, we’re all different - we have different styles, different shapes, everything. So it would be good to sort of cater for every woman that listens to our music."

Heidi added that designing clothes would be a dream job for the trio. She said: "It’s a dream job isn’t it? Getting somebody saying ‘Design some clothes and we’ll make them.’"

Jade said the girls would also love to design shoes, joking: "Maybe we could do that with Jimmy Choo?"

Sugababes reckon they have finally grown up with their next record, 'Sweet 7' their most mature to date.

Sugababes reckon they have finally grown up on their latest album.

The girl group - which features Heidi Range, 26, Jade Ewen, 22, and Amelle Berrabah, 25 - said their forthcoming record, 'Sweet 7' shows a more mature sound and, lyrically, is a better reflection of who they are.

Heidi said: "We've grown up; and with the things we talk about in the lyrics, we've grown up. Every album we've wanted to take a step up; and this is definitely the best album we've done. It was exciting for us, a whole new sound."

The group - who signed to Jay-Z's Roc nation record label last year - also said their new label introduced them to different producers - including RedOne and Ne-Yo - who all had a positive effect on the group.

Heidi added: "It was more exciting for us and, it's a personal relationship I suppose. Of course we understand it' still a business at the end of the day, but they seem to care about us and encourage us."

The group were, however, rocked recently when tracks from 'Sweet 7' were leaked online, but said they are close to finding out who is responsible for the leak, after an enquiry which they compared to TV series '24'.

Jade added to website DigitalSpy: "There's some detective work going on and apparently we're close to finding out where it's from.

"All of the CDs are watermarked so they can find out where it came from and who's had it. It's like on '24', there's a whole investigation going on."

Sugababes perform at the Bloomsbury Ballroom

The Sugababes put on a show for the guests attending the On/Off Jalouse Party at Bloomsbury Ballroom in London. For those not familiar with the Sugababes they are like Menudo – just swapping members all the time. The current threesome includes Heidi Range, Amelle Berrabah and Jade Ewen – none of which are original members.

The group is about to release their seventh studio album entitled Sweet 7. The groups was named the most successful British female act of the 21st century which is even more impressive given the interchangeable parts. This will be the first album featuring Jade Ewen and the first release as part of Jay-Z’s label Roc Nation.
