[edit] Background

Following the release of Sweet 7 in March 2010, it was announced that just over a month later, following speculation of a band break-up, that the girls would be returning to the studio to work on a new record. In August 2010, they began work on their eighth studio album.[1] In February 2011, Heidi confirmed the recording of "Freedom", and claimed that it could well be the lead single from the album.[2] On May 18, 2011, the group announced that they would premier "Freedom" during a festival date in Morrocco in June 2011.[3] Following the track's first live performance, a snippet appeared online on June 1, as part of an advertising campaign for the Nokia N8 mobile phone. The snippet featured a dubstep-style breakdown.[4] On July 6, the group confirmed that they had split from their long-time record company Island Records, and had since signed a three-album deal with Sony BMG.[5] On July 10, the band premiered the song for the first time in the UK, performing it live at the T4 On The Beach Festival in Weston Super-Mare.[6] A second teaser appeared online on July 22.[7] On August 1, the song recieved it's first radio play on BBC Radio 1, and was such leaked online in it's radio edit form. The radio edit does not include the dubstep breakdown as featured in the Nokia snippet posted on YouTube.[8] On August 15, the band announced that the single would be released via Digital Download on September 25, 2011, and as a physical single the following day.[9]

[edit] Music Video

The video premiered on T4 on 4 August and on August 10, 2011,through the group's YouTube channel. Featuring the full version of the song, including the dubstep-style breakdown that was omitted from the radio edit. The video was directed by Sean De Sparengo, and features the girls performing the song amongst a crowd in an underground night club. On August 11, a behind-the-scenes look at the video was posted on YouTube.[10]

This is our best nightclub-based pop video we’ve ever seen today

The Sugababes have done a video and they look pretty hot in it if we say so ourselves. Bobbing around to the sound of their new song Freedom, the Sugababes manage to find various wind machines around the club – a very handy skill.
With the single out on 26 Sept, it doesn’t look like the Sugababes are drifting into oblivion just yet. In fact, Heidi, Jade and Amelle are looking shiner than ever. We feel like they would smell nice.
