MKS Might Now Be Known As The Sugababes… Again

MKS Might Now Be Known As The Sugababes… Again

Sugababes 2014 Feature
Posted by on 05/18/2014 at 11:29 PM News

The original Sugababes lineup –Mutya Buena, Keisha Buchanan, and Siobhán Donaghy– caused quite the stir in the pop world last year when they reunited for a comeback as MKS. Despite putting out the excellent Dev Hynes-produced single, “Flatline,” the trio’s return turned out to be a bust when the song limped into the UK charts at No. 50.
They’ve remained pretty quiet since then, but according to new gossip reports in the British papers, the girls are preparing another comeback in August — with new management, a new label, and a new (old) name.
A ‘source’ says: “The girls have changed label, got new management and are getting ready to release their new single in the summer as Sugababes. It’s been a messy battle legally but MKS are now no more.
Apparently they were able to snatch back the Sugababes name now that the current incarnation of the group has officially disbanded for good.
Hopefully the new team and the old name means better promotion for the original ‘Babes, who really should’ve smashed the charts with “Flatline.”

'Let's Get Things Straight': MKS Deny Slamming Sugababes As 'Fake'

'Let's Get Things Straight': MKS Deny Slamming Sugababes As 'Fake'

The reunited trio apparently criticised former bandmates for acting like the best of friends

Former Sugababes - Mutya Buena, Keisha Buchanan and Siobhan Donaghy - have denied slamming their previous bandmates.
Now back together as MKS, the trio were thought to have blasted their bandmates Amelle Berrabah and Heidi Range for being "fake people" and acting like they were" best of friends" during an interview with Q Magazine.
The singers say they've grown up and get along better together (WENN)
In quotes widely circulated today, Keisha and Mutya, who formed the first incarnation of the chart-topping 'Freak Like Me' girl group with Siobhan, appeared to suggest they longer spoke to their ex bandmates:
Keisha was said to have revealed: 'You see them now and they're like, 'What are you girls up to?'"
Mutya was believed to have added of her ex friends: ''And they act surprised when you don't want to say hello back to them. They're like, 'Oh, I can see you don't want to talk to me.' Well, yeah. F**k off. You clearly know why. So you just have to give them that look and hope that they'll go away.''
The target of the quotes had actually been confused with a representative for the band confirming that the girls were actually talking about "people around them" and not the Sugababes themselves.
Keisha took to twitter today to slam the reports, writing: "Morning tweets. Just to make this clear. The "quote" that is going around about us slagging off ex members is totally false. It doesn't even sound like how we talk. Whoever wrote that is clearly on some form of comedy crack. Get a life! We do not hate H A J [Heidi Amelle Jade] ok! Lol".
"Me & @keisha_buchanan r way to busy and real enough to say to say what's on our mind we dnt talk nasty about no1 lets get things straight," added Buena.
Siobhan left the Sugababes first amidst a rift with Keisha in 2001, followed by Mutya in 2005, and finally, Keisha left in 2009 to be replaced by Jade Ewen.
Since then the 'Flatline' singers, who formed as a band as teenagers, are back together and insit the trio have grown up and get along better.
In an interview with Q magazine, Siobhan said: ''We actually know each other now. I don't believe we actually knew each other then. I don't believe we ever had any real relationship. We had a relationship through our management, or our parents. We didn't call, text, email.''
MKS have recently completed their debut album as MKS and they are said to be extremely happy with the music they have produced.

Why is everyone so excited about Mutya Keisha Siobhan? -gigwise.com

Why is everyone so excited about Mutya Keisha Siobhan?

They're just another girlgroup right? Wrong. Very wrong

Why is everyone so excited about Mutya Keisha Siobhan?

The original Sugababes are back and a lot of people are getting very excited about it. But why, when you can't step out of your front door without bumping into a band in the midst of a comeback, is the dawn of Mutya Keisha Siobhan causing such a fuss?
Mutya Buena, Keisha Buchanon and Siobhan Donaghy arrived on the music scene in 2000 with their astounding debut single, 'Overload' - a smart, sassy and achingly cool pop debut. During the group's 13-year career, the term 'Sugababes' became pop code for 'shambles' as the edgy, spiky founding members were jettisoned from the group for increasingly more glossy members.
Now reunited as Mutya Keisha Siobhan, their comeback is big news. The trio gave their first interview to London hipster magazine Ponystep, and their presence has even filtered through to NME, who cover the goings on of MKS among the regular updates on Beady Eye, Babyshambles, Arctic Monkeys and the like.
But why the interest in MKS, when the return of (for instance), Atomic Kitten during The Big Reunion barely raised so much as pair of a false eyelashes? Check out ten good reasons why the return of Mutya, Keisha and Siobhan is such a big deal - and why we really should be very excited indeed...

1. First of all, it is astounding that they are back together at all, considering the initial break was of apocalyptic proportions

2. But more importantly, comeback single 'Flatline' is properly brilliant

3. And of course, 'Overload' still sounds amazing, 13 years on

4. With a band who date back over a decade, there is a nostalgia value to things

5. When it comes to girlgroups in the UK, we really don't have much in the way of credibility. That's Little Mix below, FYI

6. This is as close to a cheesy dance routine MKS are ever likely to get

7. Then, of course there were solo careers. Mutya's Groove Armada collaboration was an absolute work of genius

8. Siobhan Donaghy's second solo album was a masterpiece. It was also a massive flop, but that's by the by

9. The album is likely to be quite good. After all, Dev Hynes is involved and we all know what he did for Beyonce's little sister (all hail Solange etc)

10. But most of all, it doesn't matter what they call themselves, we know who they really are

And when we say ‘pretty good’ we mean one of our Top 10 Pop Moments Of All Time.
The danger, we felt beforehand, was that it would be a slightly insular look back at times gone by, but the setlist was a perfect mix of just enough really old stuff, just enough mid-Babes more recent stuff, and just enough ‘Flatline’-isn’t-as-good-as-it-gets futurestuff. Surprisingly, it really felt like the start of something.
The best new song they played last night, which we hand’t heard before, is a song called ‘Today’. MNEK worked on it and it has TWO AND A HALF CHORUSES.
https://
The defining point of the show, however, is captured in the following YouTube clip of the band performing ‘Stronger’. They key moment comes at 2:10 when it gets to ‘the Heidi bit’. You wonder how the band will handle it, and the person who’s recording the clip assumes, like most of us, that Mutya will take the vocal. But then… Well, watch the clip.
We can’t remember the last time we heard a live audience react like that. A very special moment.
Here’s another one of our favourite new songs – ‘I’m Alright’.
We love ‘No Regrets’ as well.
As for the rest of the set, well, that was jolly good as well. YouTube isn’t short of clips if you fancy losing the rest of your afternoon

The original Sugababes are in LA filming the video for their comeback track.

It’s the reunion that nobody thought would ever happen, then it was announced and then nothing. But now, the Mutya Keisha Siobhan comeback is well underway, as the girls have released a video for their kind-of-debut single Flatline.
The former Sugababes have been posting pics of themselves in LA, where they are filming the official video for the single. Mutya, Keisha and Siobhan are also gearing up for their first live shows together in over 11 years – they’re playing London’s Scala on August 1.
Chatting to Billboard, the group – jokingly referred to as the ‘Origibabes’ by some fans ¬– revealed they have written a song with Sia for the album, which is currently slated for release in early 2014.
Flatline is released on September 1. Watch the lyric video:

Chart Facts

As the original incarnation of the Sugababes, Mutya, Keisha and Siobhan had four Top 40 hits on the Official Singles Chart. Their biggest was Overload, which hit Number 6 in 2000 and sold 165,000 copies. The last time the three of them were in the charts together was with Soul Sound in July 2001 – it reached Number 30.
Post-Siobhan, Mutya and Keisha (was joined by Heidi - JEF) went on to have ten Top 40 hits together, including four Number 1s: Freak Like Me, Round Round and Push The Button. Push The Button was the biggest hit for this line-up, spending three weeks at the top and selling 460,000 copies.
It was Mutya’s turn to leave the nest at this point, making Keisha the sole original Sugababe, alongside Heidi Range and Amelle Berrabah. This incarnation would also have ten Top 40 singles together and actually scored the biggest suga-hit – About You Now was Number 1 for four weeks in 2007 and has sold over 520,000 copies.
The Keisha-free version of Sugababes have since managed two Top 10 hits. Their last appearance on the Official Singles Chart was with Wear My Kiss, a Number 7 hit in March 2010.

Mutya Buena steals the limelight with her tiny denim playsuit as ex-Sugababes MKS shoot debut video

She was always one of the more daring members of all the Sugababes line-ups when it came to her fashion choices.
And as the original members of the girl group reunite to shoot their comeback single in Los Angeles, it looks like Mutya Buena's dress sense is just as cheeky as ever.
Having spent £5,000 on bottom implants three years ago, no wonder Mutya was keen to show off her curvaceous behind in a tiny denim playsuit.

The trio, who now go by the name Mutya Keisha Siobhan, were pictured shooting the video for their debut single Flatline in Venice Beach this week.
Mother-of-one Mutya, 28, showed off her tattooed body in the strapless denim playsuit, leaving her long black hair flowing down.
Bandmate Keisha Buchanan was a bit more covered up in high-waisted stone-washed jeans and a fringed crop top.

Meanwhile, redhead Siobhan Donaghy wore a pair of pink skinny jeans and cropped shirt.
Taking to their joint Twitter, they wrote: 'What are we doing today? We're only shooting the 'Flatline' video!! So excited to be working with KT Auleta.'
After putting the past behind them, the trio reunited last year and signed a record deal with Polydor Records.

Although their new single Flatline is due for release on September 1, they confirmed they won't be releasing their album until early 2014.
The untitled disc features the threesome writing with Dev Hynes, Richard Stannard, MNEK and original Sugababes producer Cameron McVey.
Siobhan left the group in August 2001 during a promotional tour in Japan - less than a year after the release of their first single Overload.

She later admitted she didn't have much of a relationship with Keisha - who had gone to the same school as Mutya - and ended up fighting depression after leaving the band.
After being replaced by Liverpudlian Heidi Range, the trio enjoyed huge success, including No.1s around the world and a Brit Award.
However, Mutya decided to quit the group in December 2005 to spend more time with her daughter.

Keisha remained with the Sugababes and their new replacement Amelle Berrabah until she was 'forced out' of the group in September 2007.
In a statement, she insisted it 'was not my choice to leave', adding 'It's time to enter a new chapter in my life.'
The current Sugababes, comprising of Amelle, Heidi and Jade Ewen have been on hiatus since 2012.

Video and photos of Mutya Keisha Siobhan (MKS) filming Flatline video.

THE original Sugababes are back — but it looks like Mutya got a bit of a BUM deal.
The founding members of the British pop act — who have reformed under simple new name Mutya Keisha Siobhan (MKS) — were together again to film the video for their first single, Flatline.

Sugababes have had a famously turbulent past and none of the three original members star in the current line-up, which is why they had to change their name.
