Sugababes: Keisha leaving was worse than a breakup
They’ve changed line ups more times than we’ve sung About You Now on Singstar, but now the current Sugababes (Amelle Berrabah, Heidi Range and Jade Ewen, in case you'd lost track) have spoken out about that time they got slated by pretty much everyone, when Keisha Buchanan left the group back in 2009. And they got slated quite a lot.
Now, we’ll admit that we like the current line up (and LOVED the much-maligned Sweet 7 album), but many people didn’t. And still don’t. And according to the girls, it was a “horrible time”.
Talking on Gaydar radio, Heidi admits of the time, "It was like going through a break-up... where you know that person's not right for you but you still love them because of the history you've got. Things were getting written saying we'd kicked Keisha out - it was just a really bad time.
"We were trying to be respectful for her and didn't want to air people's dirty laundry in public, and because we didn't talk about the ins and outs, people think we've got something to be guilty of."
Amelle adds, "It was a bit of a blur. We got loads of crap as well, and a few times we were like, 'Right, that's it, we've got to tell the world what happened’. We just looked so bad, and [the press] were writing more and more."
While that may all be true, we’re still more concerned with the fact Mutya has won the rights to be able to sell Sugababes-branded gift wrap and stationery ranges. We’d be totally jealous of that. Mum, you know what’ll be on our Christmas list this year.
