Sugababes split up two years ago and they've been lying about it ever since, says Jade Ewen

Sugababes split up two years ago and they've been lying about it ever since, says Jade Ewen

If you believed the band were coming back in 2014, you're either easily tricked or you're Heidi Range

Jade, the big old liar

Are you sitting down? We've got some bad news - the Sugababes are splitting up! Well, they actually split up two years ago, but they've been lying to us for ages because ... we don't know why, actually. Because Amelle, Heidi and Jade thought we'd all fall apart without the band here to watch over us? We need something to believe in, in these hard times. And the Sugababes clearly thought that THEY were that beacon of hope. And now it's gone. Sorry everyone.
In an interview that sounds like a confession, Jade admitted to Digital Spy that she literally couldn't go on lying about the band coming back next year, and it sounds like once she started talking, she couldn't hold anything back.

"This is a tricky one because I don't feel comfortable lying, saying we're in the studio recording and we're going to bring music out next year, which seems to be the favoured line," she said. "I think it's unfair to fans and we should be honest. The band being over is definitely not my choice. I kind of was unlucky in that I came in [to Sugababes] towards the end of the cycle when things naturally came to the end. There was so much drama surrounding the group, I think the music just got lost. I don't like all the drama and the negativity. We kind of fizzled out about two years ago."
Which was also when Mutya, Keisha and Siobhan got back together. Interesting. "I do think the lineup changes have obviously got to be a factor, you can't get away from it," Jade continued. "I'd be lying if I didn't think the same when I was approached. I was like, 'Is this going to work? Are people going to accept it?' But I know it's a brand and the music industry isn't necessarily about making music. One day I'm hoping that I'll be able to put out a book and explain that whole chapter."

And in the bleakest look at the music industry EVER, Jade added: "I had to make a decision - a very difficult decision, because I was about making music and the creativity - when I realised that everybody was only interested in the business and that if I ever wanted to put out music I needed to take an opportunity in the short term. I was just trying to survive. I went from Eurovision to being told I had a solo deal to being told, 'You might be dropped'. I'd already had three deals before that and been dropped and it's heartbreaking. I basically thought, 'Alright, I'm going to go for it, see where it takes me'. I did feel to a certain extent that I got lost, but at the same time it was an amazing opportunity. It was almost like a dress rehearsal of being a popstar. But now it's time to move forward... Come on, I've done Eurovision, I've done Sugababes. If it's still hard, should I just give up?"
Don't give up, Jade! There's always Celebrity Masterchef, which Heidi Range recently had a crack at.
And here's MKS's single Flatline, which is out today. Sorry Jade.

Sugababes vs. MKS – reunion proves the original is the best - Metro

Sugababes vs. MKS – reunion proves the original is the best

Sugababes v MKS - reunion proves original is the best
Mutya Keisha Siobhan were the founding members of Sugababes
Back in 2000, on the back of the girl power movement, Siobhan Donaghy, Mutya Buena and Keisha Buchanan launched a different kind of pop sound to the ears of the UK.   Their debut single ‘Overload’ was showered with public and critical acclaim (NME described it as ‘hauntingly infectious’) and peaked at number 6 in the charts
Roll on 13 years and the girls are back, musically reunited for the first time since rumours of infighting and bullying plagued the young band. For many the Sugababes are now seen as the epitome of manufactured pop; Siobhan leaves and is replaced by Heidi Range, Mutya leaves and Amelle Berrabah is ushered in to her place 48 hours later, and then when Keisha is show the door, up pops Eurovision starlet Jade Ewen.
The biggest talent in the original line up was always Siobhan Donaghy. She left the band in 2001 and pursued a solo career that wowed critics with her vocal abilities. Back in 2003, she released her first commercial solo single ‘Overrated’ with many proclaiming that her talents were very much underrated.

While Siobhan may have been the critics choice, it was the commercial success of the Mutya, Keisha and Heidi combo that really set the charts alight. The trio scored a huge array of number ones including Freak Like Me, Round Round and Hole in the Head. Nominated for six BRIT awards, they picked up best dance act in 2003.

Mutya Buena also enjoyed solo success with her album Real Girl.  She peaked in success with a vocal appearance on Groove Armada’s ‘Song 4 Mutya (Out of Control)’ that peaked at number 8 in the charts. Despite being uncredited on the track, Buena could take some consolation that the song was named after her!
So fast forward to 2013. The new Sugababes are on a bit of a hiatus and the originals in the shape of Mutya Keisha Siobhan (MKS) are about to be be let loose on the charts again. One can’t help but think that the Sugababes b(r)and may only ever be rekindled for the likes of ITV2′s The Big Reunion (but that in itself would raise questions as to who the producers would bring back together).
Whether the two groups ever come head to head, remains to be seen. MKS are actively working the summer festival circuit and have been writing songs with ex-All Sainter, Shaznay Lewis. The sound of their new song ‘Flatline’ is very reminiscent of the soulfully amazing early day Sugababes, so it will be interesting to watch whether MKS can reach the same levels of success more than a decade on.
Flatline is released on 1st September, 2013.

The original Sugababes are in LA filming the video for their comeback track.

It’s the reunion that nobody thought would ever happen, then it was announced and then nothing. But now, the Mutya Keisha Siobhan comeback is well underway, as the girls have released a video for their kind-of-debut single Flatline.
The former Sugababes have been posting pics of themselves in LA, where they are filming the official video for the single. Mutya, Keisha and Siobhan are also gearing up for their first live shows together in over 11 years – they’re playing London’s Scala on August 1.
Chatting to Billboard, the group – jokingly referred to as the ‘Origibabes’ by some fans ¬– revealed they have written a song with Sia for the album, which is currently slated for release in early 2014.
Flatline is released on September 1. Watch the lyric video:

Chart Facts

As the original incarnation of the Sugababes, Mutya, Keisha and Siobhan had four Top 40 hits on the Official Singles Chart. Their biggest was Overload, which hit Number 6 in 2000 and sold 165,000 copies. The last time the three of them were in the charts together was with Soul Sound in July 2001 – it reached Number 30.
Post-Siobhan, Mutya and Keisha (was joined by Heidi - JEF) went on to have ten Top 40 hits together, including four Number 1s: Freak Like Me, Round Round and Push The Button. Push The Button was the biggest hit for this line-up, spending three weeks at the top and selling 460,000 copies.
It was Mutya’s turn to leave the nest at this point, making Keisha the sole original Sugababe, alongside Heidi Range and Amelle Berrabah. This incarnation would also have ten Top 40 singles together and actually scored the biggest suga-hit – About You Now was Number 1 for four weeks in 2007 and has sold over 520,000 copies.
The Keisha-free version of Sugababes have since managed two Top 10 hits. Their last appearance on the Official Singles Chart was with Wear My Kiss, a Number 7 hit in March 2010.

Mutya Buena steals the limelight with her tiny denim playsuit as ex-Sugababes MKS shoot debut video

Mutya Buena steals the limelight with her tiny denim playsuit as ex-Sugababes MKS shoot debut video

She was always one of the more daring members of all the Sugababes line-ups when it came to her fashion choices.
And as the original members of the girl group reunite to shoot their comeback single in Los Angeles, it looks like Mutya Buena's dress sense is just as cheeky as ever.
Having spent £5,000 on bottom implants three years ago, no wonder Mutya was keen to show off her curvaceous behind in a tiny denim playsuit.

The trio, who now go by the name Mutya Keisha Siobhan, were pictured shooting the video for their debut single Flatline in Venice Beach this week.
Mother-of-one Mutya, 28, showed off her tattooed body in the strapless denim playsuit, leaving her long black hair flowing down.
Bandmate Keisha Buchanan was a bit more covered up in high-waisted stone-washed jeans and a fringed crop top.

Meanwhile, redhead Siobhan Donaghy wore a pair of pink skinny jeans and cropped shirt.
Taking to their joint Twitter, they wrote: 'What are we doing today? We're only shooting the 'Flatline' video!! So excited to be working with KT Auleta.'
After putting the past behind them, the trio reunited last year and signed a record deal with Polydor Records.

Although their new single Flatline is due for release on September 1, they confirmed they won't be releasing their album until early 2014.
The untitled disc features the threesome writing with Dev Hynes, Richard Stannard, MNEK and original Sugababes producer Cameron McVey.
Siobhan left the group in August 2001 during a promotional tour in Japan - less than a year after the release of their first single Overload.

She later admitted she didn't have much of a relationship with Keisha - who had gone to the same school as Mutya - and ended up fighting depression after leaving the band.
After being replaced by Liverpudlian Heidi Range, the trio enjoyed huge success, including No.1s around the world and a Brit Award.
However, Mutya decided to quit the group in December 2005 to spend more time with her daughter.

Keisha remained with the Sugababes and their new replacement Amelle Berrabah until she was 'forced out' of the group in September 2007.
In a statement, she insisted it 'was not my choice to leave', adding 'It's time to enter a new chapter in my life.'
The current Sugababes, comprising of Amelle, Heidi and Jade Ewen have been on hiatus since 2012.

THE original Sugababes are back — but it looks like Mutya got a bit of a BUM deal.
The founding members of the British pop act — who have reformed under simple new name Mutya Keisha Siobhan (MKS) — were together again to film the video for their first single, Flatline.

Sugababes have had a famously turbulent past and none of the three original members star in the current line-up, which is why they had to change their name.

Mutya Keisha Siobhan step out for lunch during a break from filming their comeback video

Milk and three ex-Sugababes! Mutya, Siobhan and Keisha step out for lunch during a break from filming their comeback video

They used to one of the hottest girl groups of the 90’s.
Now, after individual attempts at establishing solo careers the three founding members of Sugababes are back with a new name and, perhaps more importantly, a brand new sound.
Mutya Buena, Keisha Buchanan and Siobhan Donaghy have set aside the differences that prompted their departure from the band and reunited as Mutya Keisha Siobhan (MKS) for a new album, recorded with a string of top producers.

Lead single Flatline has already been unveiled on their official Soundcloud page, and with expectation mounting the girls are currently filming the video in LA – where they were spotted enjoying some down time on Monday.
The three pals appeared relaxed and happy as they took a leisurely stroll to Dessert at Toast in Hollywood for a bite to eat, often giggling as they chatted amongst themselves.
As temperatures soared in Southern California the trio made sure they were dressed appropriately, with Mutya, 28, opting for a pair of tight fitting denim shorts and white vest top that showed off her numerous tattoos.

Close friend Keisha, also 28, wore a fresh looking orange camisole vest with a black leather shirt – although the decision to wear chunky trainer boots was misguided given the hot weather.
Meanwhile Siobhan, 29, wore a white top with heavy fringe detailing and baby pink cropped skinny’s adorned with stars. Her look was completed by a pair of stylish orange heels.
The reformed group have been steadily building expectation all year following a canny marketing campaign via online music service, where they’ve been debuting a mixture of previews and full length tracks.

The girls have also enlisted the help of stars including William Orbit, former All Saints singer Shaznay Lewis and writer producer Devonte Hynes – whose distinctive style has worked wonders for Solange Knowles, with whom he co-wrote and produced last year’s True EP.
While the as yet untitled debut album is expected to drop later this year, an official release date is yet to be unveiled.
