Blinkbox Music: Amelle's Summer Anthems

AMELLE’S SUMMER ANTHEMS

image
As one-third of the Sugababes, Amelle Berrabah is a familiar face on the pop scene, but with new single Love Is All We Need – a collaboration with highly respected DJ Adam J – we see her dipping her toe in the heady beats of clubland, with suitably lively results.
Released this week, and with production coming courtesy of the Nightcrashers, the song sees Amelle’s trademark vocals fronting up a frenetic, Ibiza-flavoured groove perfect for those long summer nights.
With the song’s dance credentials in mind, we tasked Amelle with putting together a station of her favourite summer anthems right now – tune in below!

Amelle's Interview and Hot photos in the Daily Star

Sugababe Amelle: "I'm no bitch!"

Bouncing into our studio with a big grin on her face, Sugababe Amelle Berrabah couldn’t be further removed from the band’s moody image

Chatting non-stop about her recent holiday in Greece and catching up on the latest celeb gossip, her throaty laugh rings out loud.
She’s bright, breezy and couldn’t be happier to be discussing her new solo career.
But she admits being a member of the Suga-babes, with ever-changing line-ups and constant tales of bust-ups, means being labelled a bitch.
She says: “It’s like a tattoo. Even if you smile, people assume you’re a bitch. I’ve done TV shows and people have been shocked that I’m nice! I was like: ‘What did you expect?’ It fascinates me.
“But before I joined, I thought the Sugababes were bitches. You heard things, you saw interviews where they didn’t smile.”
The Babes in their current incarnation – Amelle, 29, Heidi Range, 30, and Jade Ewen, 25 – have been on a break and opinion is split on whether they will work together again.
In interviews published on the same day, Amelle said she thought they would, while Jade appeared to rule it out. So what’s really going on?
“We haven’t spoken about it for a while,” admits Amelle. “I don’t know if we’ll do anything else.
“If Jade feels that way and wants to do her own thing, I totally respect that. We have no plans to do anything together at the moment but the door’s always open.”
But while this version of the band could be splitting up for good, the original trio has reformed under the name MKS – Mutya Buena and Keisha Buchanan, both 28, and Siobhan Donaghy, 29.

They’ve had critical praise and their new single Flatline is tipped to be a huge hit.
Amelle insists she has no problems with the girls, but you can’t help feeling there must be a certain degree of rivalry.
She says: “I haven’t even thought about how we’ll be compared to them or whether we’ll be put under pressure.
“We’re very different. They’ve gone back to early Sugababes, that whole stripped-back vibe. It’s very different to what we would do.
“I was intrigued to see what they’d come up with and when I heard the single I genuinely liked it.
“I’m just a fan of people who have good voices and can sing live. I respect them in terms of that.
“There’s definitely room for two bands who have come from the same place. But at the same time, I’m not going to lie, it’s a bit strange. I wish them all the best. Life’s too short not to do that.”

While the future of the Sugababes is up in the air, Amelle insists the girls’ friendships are as strong as ever.
She says: “I speak to Heidi a lot because I’ve known her longer and we’ve been through a lot of sh*t together. We’re very tight.
“I’m still close to Jade but she lives far from me, while Heidi lives round the corner, so it’s easier to see each other.”
Amelle has been working so hard on her new album, it’s left little time for love.
She dated Kelly Brook’s ex Danny Cipriani, 25, for a while but realised there was no spark.
“Before I joined, I thought the Sugababes were bitches. You heard things, you saw interviews where they didn’t smile”
Amelle
She does, however, hit back at rumours that she was embroiled in his recent sex-text scandal, while admitting that he did send her messages.
“He sent me a few that I found a bit strange and I didn’t reply,” she reveals. “So that was it, really.
“I’m glad nothing happened between us now. I don’t feel sorry for him.”
Amelle has shied away from the limelight for the past few years after a string of stories about her hit the headlines.
As well the as the usual rumours of feuds in the band, her gypsy ex Freddie Fuller nearly lost an arm in a machete attack.
Her younger sister Samiya also accused Freddie of sexually assaulting her but later admitted the attack was “a bad dream”. Now Amelle is keen for people to concentrate on her musical abilities rather than her private life.
She explains: “It’s frustrating when you have to explain yourself 24/7 and friends are asking what’s going on.
“It did get to me a bit. But sometimes you just have to get on with it and not let it mess with your head or dwell on it for too long.
“I’ve been in clubs and people have tried to goad me to get a reaction. That’s one of the reasons I didn’t go out for a long time. Now if that happens, I’m out of there.

“I’m a simple girl and I just want to lead as much of a normal life as I can.
“But I know I’m lucky to do what I do, and that you have to deal with all that comes with it.
“That’s why I don’t want to complain, ever. I’m looking to the future now.”
Today marks a new start as her solo single Love (Is All We Need) is released, with an album to follow later in the year.
Amelle says the album is the “story of her life” and she penned all but one of the tracks.
She says: “In the Sugababes, you kind of get given a role and stick with it. Commercial, pop, not too left-field. I know where our place in music as a girlband is and I’m fine with that.
“But working on my own stuff has allowed me to find my own place.”
Love (Is All We Need) by Adam J featuring Amelle & Nightcrashers is out today.

Sugababes' Amelle Berrabah says she would definitely go and see MKS perform live!

Sugababe Amelle Berrabah has emerged from her studio cocoon as a festival butterfly, all set to face a grilling from heat's Lucie Cave.
She talked about the original Sugababes line-up reforming as MKS and said it was great to see Mutya, Keisha and Siobhan back as a group.
"I think it's a good idea, even when I heard the little whispers before, and everyone was like 'd'ya think it's going to happen?', I was like, well, if I was in the audience, I'd want to go and see them," she said.
"They're proper singers, they can sing live, they're musicians… I'm intrigued and I think they'll do well."
She refused to be drawn on which girl band would win in a fight for a number one single, saying it would all be down to who had the better song.
See how Amelle got on with our infamous Toilet Roll of Doom in the video above.

Reports claim the pair had a steamy two-month fling before he started dating Kelly for a second time.

But Amelle yesterday denied doing the deed telling me: “I did go on a couple of dates with Danny but it fizzled out because I wasn’t interested.

“I’m glad nothing happened between us now. It didn’t get to that stage, it was more like friends.”

“I’m not really sure if addiction to sex really exists, I think it’s more in your head whether you need attention from people. An insecurity thing”
Amelle
Amelle’s pals claimed she ended it due to Danny’s obsession with sending naked pics of himself.
Although the babe wouldn’t comment on what he sent she did say: “He sent me a few messages that I just found a bit strange and didn’t reply, so that was it really.”
Amelle, who is launching a solo career, added: “I don’t feel sorry for him.
“I’m not comparing Danny to Russell Brand but with people like that I’m not really sure if addiction to sex really exists.
“I think it’s more in your head whether you need attention from people.
“It’s more of an insecurity thing.”

Amelle Berrabah: "I feel sorry for Kelly Brook, but Danny Cipriani's a nice bloke"

Amelle Berrabah: "I feel sorry for Kelly Brook, but Danny Cipriani's a nice bloke"

Amelle Berrabah found her name in the papers recently, and not for anything to do with singing or the Sugababes. She was linked to the whole Kelly Brook and Danny Cipriani sexting drama.
It was alleged that Amelle was one of the women that Danny was texting rude messages and pictures to while he was still dating Kelly.
So what does Amelle have to say about the whole thing? Not a lot really - other than feeling sorry for Kelly - because she barely knows Danny.
"I felt really sorry for Kelly," Amelle told us of the whole scandal as we chatted to her in the Virgin Media Louder Lounge at V Festival 2013.
Amelle played down her connection to Danny, saying: "Me and him it was nothing, it was a good six months before he got back together with her, we only went on two dates it was very… nothing.
"I feel bad," Amelle continues. "I hope she's ok because it must be awful finding stuff out like that. Danny's a nice bloke but I don't really know him, we were just trying to get to know each other on those two dates."
So, that's the end of that then. It's nothing at all to do with Amelle.

Amelle Berrabah: 'I'll make it to number one before MKS!'

Amelle Berrabah: 'I'll make it to number one before MKS!'

Like a sitcom broom with both its head and its handle repeatedly replaced, the Sugababes march ever on, unslayable, unrepentant.
For those who have been asleep for the entirety of the decade: the Sugababes originally were three spunky girls who sang songs and had Mutya in them and were a mildly popular girlband. Then every single member left and was replaced by someone from Eurovision. Then the original Sugababes ('Sugababes Alpha') came back as MKS, while the new Sugababes ('Sugababes 2: Electric Boogaloo') split up. ARE YOU KEEPING UP AT THE BACK?
Anyway, we spoke to current Sugababe Amelle Berrabah about Sugababes Alpha, Sugababes 2: Electric Boogaloo and MKS, and asked her the chances of either making it to number one in a sort of chart-related battle-to-the-death.
"Ha," she said. "I'm not so sure! But I'd love to go and watch MKS live – they've all got really great voices."
So does that mean MKS and Sugababes could join forces as a sixsome? Well, no – the current Sugababes have no plans to record, but they are still in touch.
"Look," Amelle said. "It's never say never, but we're all doing different things. We're all on the phone to each other all the time asking each other what to wear, so we're still in touch."
