Sonu and the Sugababes!

Sonu and the Sugababes!
ROSHNI K OLIVERA , TNN, Apr 17, 2010, 12.00am IST

The Sugababes are coming to Mumbai. This hot English female pop group from London will perform live at the IPL on April 25th. But there’s something else on their agenda, too — they will be recording with Sonu Nigam.

Sonu’s ready with three tracks that he has composed himself. He will record one of them with the Sugababes. “The tracks are totally mainstream,” says Sonu. Talking about the collaboration, he says, “Their music is really good. I did a lot of study on their kind of music and with my programming team, we’ve come up with three tracks.”

The Guinness Book of World Records has named the Sugababes as the most successful female act of the 21st century, thanks to seven UK No. 1 singles and 18 UK Top 10 hits. Sonu is naturally excited about this collaboration and he’s also enjoying his new role as a singer-cum-composer. “Until recently, I was just a singer, but now I’m really enjoying making music along with singing. I have always been interested in music, gadgets, software and now it’s coming to my help,” he says.

And since he’s going global, was there any special preparation? “I did a lot of research on the contemporary music scenario. I spent time upgrading my sound sense and I feel now I’m able to get the kind of sound which is acceptable worldover,” he says. Music apart, will the video with the Sugababes be quite a bold one? “It’s going to be very interesting for me and the Sugababes,” smiles Sonu.

AR Rahman, Shah Rukh Khan, Karan Johar, Bipasha Basu, Hrithik Roshan, Katrina Kaif — the who’s who of Bollywood are getting ready to shake a leg for the Indian Premier League. While Hrithik and Bipasha will perform at the IPL Grand Finale on April 25, a bevy of stars will add glamour to the first ever IPL Awards Night, to be held on April 23, in Mumbai.

While the organisers tried to keep the line-up a closely guarded secret, HT City learnt that Hrithik will be dancing to songs from his upcoming film Kites, and will also do a choreographed number with Bipasha Basu. “Hrithik’s performance will be really special and will include some of his past hits,” says a source from Cineyug, one of the event management companies organising the event.

Rahman, apart from performing the Oscar-winning hit Jai Ho, will also be seen performing with British pop group Sugababes.Talking about the international stars, besides Sugababes, that are expected at the Grand Finale, an organiser revealed, “Our first choice was the American rapper PitBull, but he refused. The next choice was Black Eyed Peas, who also said no. We also approached Usher, but he asked for too much money.”

The IPL Awards Night will be hosted by SRK and Johar, while Shilpa Shetty, Katrina Kaif and Priyanka Chopra will perform. “The IPL Awards is the crowning jewel to recognise the best of this season,” said IPL chairman Lalit Modi.

Players on stage?

If Lalit Modi, has his way, a host of cricketers will also perform at the IPL Awards Night. A source from Cineyug, the event managers, said, “A proper choreographed performance by a team is impossible as the cricketers are busy with matches. However, cricketers Sreesanth, Brett Lee and Chris Gayle are likely to perform live. While Sreesanth will dance to a filmi number, Lee will sing and play the guitar.”

Sugababes deny split

The Sugababes have insisted their future is secure, amid rumours they are about to split.

Sugababes deny split .Following years of big success, the group's latest album, 'Sweet 7', has been a critical and commercial disappointment.

However, Heidi Range insists the girl band have no plans to go their separate ways and are looking forward to recording together again.

"That rumour has been flying around for the past nine years!", she said of reports about their demise.

"If we were going to split up I'd just come out and say it but we're actually having a great time.

"We're off to India next week and then we're back in the studio to record some new tracks," she insisted.

Meanwhile, US reports that Sugababes had been dumped by Jay-Z's US label, Roc Nation, has also been dismissed.

"We have never been 'signed' to Roc Nation for a scheduled album release in America," says a message on their official website.

Rocklife event - Anger as parents unable to buy tickets

Promoters deny they are to blame as poor sales lead to second day of Rock4Life event being cancelled
Anger as parents unable to buy children’s festival tickets

Parents yesterday criticised the organisers of a Highland music festival, saying they were unable to buy children’s tickets for the event.

One mother was told she could only buy adult Rock4Life tickets – double the price of children’s tickets – when she inquired at two vendors in Inverness.

It emerged on Tuesday that the second day of the inaugural festival at Whiteness, near Nairn, had been cancelled due to poor ticket sales.

Just 477 out of 20,000 tickets were sold, with acts including McFly, the Sugababes and Lemar, failing to “capture the imagination” of the Highland public.

Parents contacted the Press and Journal yesterday, blaming low ticket sales on the apparent lack of availability of children’s tickets.

One mother was told she could not buy tickets, costing £22.50, at two advertised sellers in the city-centre, Number 27 bar and a Highland Hospice shop.

Tobias Leask, of Caledonian Productions, which is organising the festival, countered the claims, insisting children’s tickets are available from both outlets, as well as Eden Court and the Eastgate Centre.

He said: “There is no problem with children’s tickets. I get reports daily and I can see that families are buying tickets.”

Karen Mackay, of Invergordon, who wanted to buy tickets for two adults and three children, said: “This is a family event, I presume, with the Sugababes and McFly, so why no children’s tickets locally?”

She said her only option was buying tickets through Ticketmaster, which she said would have incurred an 8% booking fee and a charge for postage.

She added: “I feel that having the only option of additional booking costs and postage certainly put me off and maybe this is why the event has not sold well?”

Another mother said: “We can’t buy children’s tickets anywhere. All the venues told us to purchase adult ones. The Sunday show would have been more fun for kids.

She added: “We have been waiting and waiting on the tickets to be sorted out, probably like hundreds of other parents in the Highlands.”

Rock4Life will now be a single-day event on May 1, featuring Status Quo, former Runrig singer Donnie Munro, Steve Harley and Cockney Revel and the Vatersay Boys.

Profits raised from the festival will be donated to the Highland Hospice, an Inverness-based centre for adults with incurable diseases.

Sugababe Keisha Buchanan set for Strictly Come Dancing

Sugababe Keisha Buchanan set for Strictly Come Dancing
By 3am's Clemmie Moodie and Danielle Lawler 15/04/2010

Former Sugababe Keisha Buchanan has been lined up for the next Strictly Come Dancing.

Beeb bosses have approached the singer, who is in LA laying down tracks with Dallas Austin for her solo album. And we hear Keisha, 25, is keen to take on the challenge.

A pal tells us: "Keisha was thrilled when asked to be part of the show. But she is a little apprehensive.

"In the Sugababes, it was all about the singing. They never really danced. So the training would be really hard for her.

"Her pal Alesha Dixon saw her solo career really take off after Strictly and she's hoping that it could help her, too. "She has so much on, it depends on whether she can fit it all in. "But she is seriously keen. It's one of the only reality shows she would ever consider."

Amelle's Happy with 2st Weight Gain

Amelle's 2st Weight Gain
Amelle Berrabah

Pictures of a size zero Amelle Berrabah shocked fans in 2009.

But since finding love (and peace at work), Amelle's gained weight.

Now the Sugababes star says she is happier than ever with her 9st figure.

Speaking to Closer magazine, Amelle, 25, said: "I've always been thin, and conscious of it. The stress last year meant I lost even more weight.

"I wasn't not eating because I wanted to be skinny.

"I felt like a little boy with no boobs. Now I've put on weight my boobs are back and I've got a bum."

The stress that Amelle is referring to is likely to be the tension within the Sugababes, which ended in the departure of Keisha Buchanan from the band last September.

Size zero: Amelle last year But it's not only a settled work life that has given Amelle her body confidence. She also puts it down to her happiness with new boyfriend Tom Benn: "He's lovely. We've only been official for the last few weeks but it's great.

"I'm glad I found him."

So how has Amelle been getting her new, curvier figure? The singer recently posted on Twitter: "Just had the nicest pizza ever."

And: "I had a chicken club with cheese instead of bacon."

At last, a celebrity diet we can get on board with.

Life's sweet in LA for JLS

Life's sweet in LA for JLS
14/04/2010

Jls are having a Suga-coated introduction to the tough music business in Los Angeles.

Keisha Buchanan - formerly of the Sugababes - is also in La La Land working on her debut solo album and has taken the boys under her wing, intro-ducing them to big names like Jay-Z and Kanye West.

A source said: "It's all go for JLS, and there's even talk of a collaboration with Keisha - who is already making waves with music honchos."

Proving again it's not what you know, but who you know...
