Henry Winkler, best known for playing the Fonz in television show Happy Days, is working as the creative consultant on a new stage musical based on the US series.
The musical of Happy Days will be directed by Andrew Wright – who choreographed the West End production of Singin’ in the Rain – and will star Heidi Range, who is best known for being in pop group the Sugababes.Range will play Pinky Tuscadero in the production, which will open at the Churchill Theatre in Bromley in January next year, before embarking on a national tour. This will include venues in Brighton, Hull, Dublin, Sheffield, Woking and Cambridge.
It is currently booking until June, 2014 when it will play the Milton Keynes Theatre. However, more dates are expected to be announced soon.
Happy Days is written by Garry Marshall, who created the original television series.
It will feature 21 musical numbers penned by Paul Williams, who worked on the film of Bugsy Malone and whose song writing credits include We’ve Only Just Begun, Evergreen and Rainy Days and Mondays. The Happy Days theme tune will also appear in the musical.
The show has musical arrangements by John McDaniel, production design by Tom Rogers and lighting design by Philip Gladwell.
It is produced by Amy Anzel for Sunday Monday Ltd in association with Todd Ruppert of RTR International.
The musical is presented in partnership with restaurant chain Ed’s Easy Diner.
