What does Jo Brand know about diving? Twitter explodes as the most bizarre celebrity reality series yet hits our screens... Splash!
Just when you thought it couldn't get any more strange in the world of reality TV, along comes Splash!
Forget X Factor, the 'celebrities' on Splash! certainly go on a journey - but only some from the 10m diving board into the chilly swimming pool - after, of course, conquering their multiple fears.
And no reality show would be complete without a judging panel - and for Splash! that was diving experts Olympic silver medallist Leon Taylor, Team GB coach Andy Banks and... comedienne Jo Brand.
What does Jo Brand know about diving? The comedienne provided some rather flirtatious commentary to the show
As the show, which is basically a diving competition, aired on Saturday evening Twitter exploded with derisory comments about the bizarre nature of the programme - presented by Vernon Kaye and sports guru Gabby Logan.
Many viewers were exasperated about the lack of knowledge Jo Brand had about diving, further fuelled by her negative comments about her own sporting prowess, including the phrase: 'I once broke my ankle diving into the swimming pool too...But it was the shallow end.'
At one point presenter Gabby and mentor Tom were spotted by the camera clutching each other, as for dear life.
Fiery: The show kicked off with new Sugababe Jade in a glittery gold bikini
When is it over? Gabby Logan and a strangely clothed Tom Daley cling on for dear life as the live show airs
And make a Splash! Celebrities dive in... it really does what it says on the tin
Twitter erupted as the divers, who are mentored by Olympian Tom Daley, took to the board.
One wrote: So that's all the goodwill from the Olympics and Skyfall destroyed in just over an hour.
Another: 'It's gonna take Jo brand to 'bomb' off the 10 m to make Splash watchable.'
Comedienne and former mental hospital nurse Jo however ignored her critics as her comments over contestants actor Jake Canuso, actor, comedian Omid Djalili, singer Jade Ewen, Sugababes singer, TV presenter Jennie Falconer and comic Helen Lederer were more focused on fun than diving.
Jo gave Omid a score of nine, saying: ‘That was so beautiful it brought tears to my eyes. It was like a majestic turkey… Can I get married to you?’
