Dancing On Ice contestant Heidi Range has hit back at German judge Katarina Witt after her cutting comments almost drove the Sugababe to tears on Sunday’s show.
Heidi, 27, was axed from the contest after the former Olympic champ gave her skating a final blast following weeks of barbed comments.
Katarina, a former Olympic champion, accused Heidi of relying on her professional partner Andrei to carry her around the rink in a series of lifts to hide her lack of skating ability.
The Sugababes singer was clearly hurt by the remarks, choking back tears as she faced flak from the judges, but yesterday hit back labelling the remarks “unfair”.
She told The Mirror: “It was just a point that she made every week - and I thought it was unfair because it was never made with any of the other girls.
“She never said to them, oh your partner just puts in you in the lift - with the other girls it was always acknowledged what they’d done to hold themselves and get into that lift.
“But with mine she seemed to just dismiss how much effort I’d put into them. You have got to go for it, you’ve got to hold yourself - and it is terrifying.
"It was never said to any of the other girls, he does that for you.
“So I took it quite personally, because it was a point she kept making every single week.”
Heidi received a low score of five from the German for her performance to Sugababes hit Push The Button, and found herself out of the show in a tense skate-off with skater Chemmy Alcott.
Asked why she had been singled out, Heidi added: “I don’t know why, because they are tough those lifts, and I think it’s something the audience at home want to see as well - they like the big lifts and they’re a bit part of the show.
“Me and Andre would go and practice for an hour a day off the ice so that we could get used to it and put those big elements into the routine.
“So I had worked really hard on them, and she was just like, ‘oh he just put you there’.
“If it was said to all the other girls then fine, but it wasn’t - if they fulfilled a lift then they were praised for it.
“I don’t think she’s done lifts - she’s an amazing, absolutely incredible skater, but it did get to me.
“You know yourself what effort you’ve put in.”

* Heidi will appear on the Dancing On Ice 2012 live tour, with tickets currently on sale.
