Press release - Fri. 2 Sept.
Statement from Amelle:Following my conviction for assault today, I would like to offer my unreserved apologies to the band's fans, my bandmates, our record label and my family.
I fully respect the Court's verdict and am pleased that the Judge saw fit to impose only a sentence of conditional discharge.
Although I was subjected to provocation on the evening in question I do not condone violence under any circumstances and would urge anybody who finds themselves in similar circumstances to show restraint and walk away.

Sugababes’ Amelle Berrabah convicted of assault!
Wow, now we knew those Sugababes were feisty sorts, but assault? Crikey, like. The singer has since apologised to fans for her behaviour, which, according to The Sun, saw her leave scratch marks on the neck of Danielle Dodoo, after words were exchanged in the VIP area of Alto (a Soho haunt owned by Amelle’s fella Tom Benn).
The case was heard at City Of Westminster Magistrates’ Court and according to the report, Amelle was reacting to Dodoo who had told her to “watch where she as going”. Although the Sugababe denied common assault, she was found guilty and was given conditional discharge, along with being ordered to pay £250 in compensation. The Judge Michael Snow confirmed she had caused “nasty, unpleasant” injuries. Eek!
Amelle did however apologise for the altercation straight after her conviction. She said, “Following my conviction for assault today, I would like to offer my unreserved apologies to the band's fans, my bandmates, our record label and my family. I fully respect the Court's verdict and am pleased that the Judge saw fit to impose only a sentence of conditional discharge.”
She continued, “Although I was subjected to provocation on the evening in question I do not condone violence under any circumstances and would urge anybody who finds themselves in similar circumstances to show restraint and walk away.”
Wow. Well despite the neck scratching and accusations of assault, we’re glad to see Amelle has accepted responsibility for her actions, apologised for her part in the whole incident and has discouraged her fans from following her lead.
