About "Out There"
A story that chronicles the lives of four kids thrown together by circumstance that will touch every kid that's ever felt a little bit different.
Four young teens are about to have their lives dramatically altered. They will need to find friendship in the most unlikely place just to survive adolescence in the off-beat new series Out There. Miller and Fiona are two Australian kids living in the small country town of Wollemi, when Reilly, an American from wealthy Connecticut and Aggie, an animal mad English girl, come into their lives.
The series explores the personal turmoil and social misadventures of the foursome, as they navigate the obstacles of adolescence. Set in and around the Wild Spring Veterinary Clinic, their lives are further complicated by real-life animal emergencies in the Australian bush.
Reilly Evans is a newly poor 14 year-old American whose life takes a harsh and unwanted turn when he is sent to Australia to live with his Aunt Ellen. Having never worked a day in this life, Reilly must now learn to fit-in, help-out and meet the expectations of those around him.
Then there's Aggie Thackery. Precise and confident, Aggie arrives from London for work experience in the clinic. For her, the chance to live in Australia is a dream come true, but she soon discovers that real life is never like dreams.Local kids Miller McKee and Fiona McDaniel find their lives completely changed by the arrival of the two outsiders.
Miller sees himself as being 'outside of the box' and likes it that way. Wandering in a social wilderness Miller has no real friends and lives in a world of his own making. Part-scientist, part dreamer, Miller draws the outsiders into his odd-ball world and by doing so creates a new peer group for himself.
For Fiona the world revolves around native animals, which she finds infinitely more interesting than humans. She's not interested in following the trends of her peers and her existence is barely registered by the kids around her. However, she quickly discovers that she and Aggie share a similar passion and they become firm friends, bringing Fiona out of her shell to face the world.
When you're 14 years of age every day presents new obstacles. Our viewers will easily recognise in their own lives the challenges our heroes' face and learn from their efforts to resolve them. For Miller, Fiona, Aggie and Reilly the changes in their lives and the emotional highs and lows of the vet clinic are all part of growing up.
It's a roller-coaster ride, but isn't that life OUT THERE?
Created by Willie Reale, OUT THERE is a 13 x half-hour ensemble drama and features Richard Wilson as 'Miller McKee', Molly McCaffrey as 'Fiona McDaniel', Jade Ewen as 'Aggie Thackery' and Douglas Smith as 'Reilly Evans'.
